The Mary Kay Cosmetics Spring 2017 collection, Light, Reinvented, brings together pastels and soft shimmers for some really pretty, feminine looks.
If you’re familiar with Mary Kay Cosmetics, you’ll know their Eye Color Palettes come as just a pan with no compact (sold separately). In the past few years, they’ve released quite a few of these “art deco” design limited edition palettes too, so my collection is growing. These two are called Sunlight and Glistening Horizon, retail price $26 CAD.
Now let’s start with the “meh”. Sunlight looks pretty in the pan but as you can see it lacks pigmentation. The pink isn’t too bad, but the rest are disappointing.
I never test shadows out with a white base just so you can see how they perform over regular primer. I used the pink to really carry this look and blended the peach onto the lid.
I used the purple shade under the lid and then patted a bit of the lighter beige on the center of my lid to create a bit of a “halo” look.
I actually love how this turned out I just don’t love that it took 3-4 layers of each shadow to get the desired pigmentation.
Glistening Horizon is a lot better as far as pigmentation goes. I love the blue and purple shades, even though the purple looks a wee bit chalky. The formula of both of these is really good though. It’s quite soft and buttery but kicks up a bit of powder.
Hot damn this eye look is giving me life though. I had to use a separate transition shade to make this work. I have the purple in the crease and the blue blended into the crease and outer V.
I used the light blue all over the lid and the shimmer in the inner corner. Again I did have to pat and blend a few layers for this though.
I am also wearing the shimmer shade from the palette as a highlight!
The Glossy Lip Oils, retailing for $19 CAD, are new products for Mary Kay. These contain grape seed, avocado and jojoba oils to hydrate and smooth lips while adding colour. These aren’t sticky at all, just nice and smooth.
You can see the pigmentation is pretty decent for these. And all swatches weren’t hard to even out since this is more of an oily base versus a sticky, tacky gloss base.
As usual, I am going to start with the one I don’t like. Sheer Pink is a disaster on my skintone. It just looks weird and milky and sinks into my lip lines.
From far away it’s not terrible but it was quite hard to even out.
Brilliant Violet is a cool-toned purple that is actually quite nice on me. It’s not too light or dark and didn’t accentuate my lip lines.
I love how this looks AND feels. It was like a nice gel-like oil on my lips with a hint of tint. This is the right kind of pastel for me.
But OMG Magenta Ray is perfect. For some reason this gunked up a bit when I applied but I blame the copious amounts of lip balm I’m wearing underneath.
This colour made my lips look full and luscious. I just love this whole entire look!
