Have I ever told you the story of my first makeup experience? I was having a sleepover at my cool Auntie Bev’s, she was always so glamorous and rebellious in my eyes. She had a huge train case full of Mary Kay makeup because she was a rep. I remember opening up that train case and seeing all the adorable pink plastic compacts and playing around with all the different products. I’m sure I looked ridiculous but she gave me pointers on how to wear shadows and blush (although at the time it was the 80s and I’m sure those pointers were harsh blush lines and blue shadow).
Mary Kay has come a long way (baby), and some of their more recent product lines are absolutely breathtaking. Like the Mary Kay Mineral Eye Color Quad for example. Released in November, these 4 colour palettes have a stunning design and really do create a complete eye look.
“Each eye colour quad features four complementary shades that coordinate beautifully, taking the guesswork out of looking gorgeous. The long-lasting, fade- and crease-resistant formula delivers lightweight, high-impact color that glides on evenly for a smooth finish.”
Now I’ll be real with you, this “palette” is about the size of 2 regular MK shadows, each shadow being the width of my finger.
SANDSTORM is a warm neutral palette containing 3 beige shimmers and a satin dark brown matte.
For our purposes, shades are numbered 1-4, left to right.
The outer 2 shades are truly the stars of the show.
For this look I put the 2nd shadow all over my lid, then I blended the 4th shadow into the crease.
Using the dark brown (shadow 1), I defined outer V and a bit of the lashline, then highlighted under my brow and blended down with shadow 3.
The final look, a nice neutral eye that I paired with a bold purple lip.
Warm-toned neutrals really make my eyes glow!
AUTUMN LEAVES is, what I would call, a Mardi Gras palette! It has gorgeous complementary shades that remind me of New Orleans in February.
All 4 shades are buttery, feel almost creamy, and have gorgeous pigmentation.
I used the green on the centre of the lid, the blended the burgundy (shadow 1) in the crease.
I then transitioned to the dark purple for the outer V and the gold for the inner corner.
This is definitely one of my favourite eye palettes, the colours are right up my alley and the formula is amazing.
What I love is that this eye look isn’t too bold or crazy so you can wear it anytime (like the day I wore it, rockin’ my red plaid fleece).
